iChat Lecture Series: 2.0

Join Jared Milam on Thursday, November 12, at 6 p.m. in Room OP 2210 as he helps continue the iChat Lecture Series here at Truman State University.

As a designer, Jared is currently working as a senior designer at Cinco Design Office. In addition, he has worked on AIGA’s Urban Forest Project and has been recognized in Communication Arts, Print, and How magazines.

Attend our iChat lecture and have this unique opportunity to speak with Jared Milam! All are welcome!

Reminder: Mandatory KC Trip Meeting Today

Please remember to attend the Kansas City trip meeting today at 5:30. At this meeting, we will hand out letters, discuss our revised itinerary, and arrange carpools and housing.

Also, after the meeting, we have the opportunity to work on fundraising crafts in the Illustration room. Please contribute your time and creativity!

Submit Art to the Regional Holiday Exhibition at Il Spazio's

Dear Artists,
 
I would like to invite you to submit any new art pieces you may have completed, as the Kirksville Arts Association begins preparations for the annual Regional Holiday Exhibition at Il Spazio’s Restaurant where work will be on display from the end of November  through January.
 
The holidays bring many local and out-of-town guests to the Restaurant and Pub providing excellent exposure for community artists.  If you are interested in displaying and/or selling pieces, we would like to receive them during the week of November 16.  Pieces can be delivered to the Arts Center during regular office hours, Monday and Tuesday 9:00am - 12:00pm and Wednesday and Thursday 9:00am - ll:00am.  Arrangements can be made for drop off at a different time or pick up by calling 665-1905 or e-mailing me at spritch@wildblue.net.  The Association’s policy of commission on sales is 20% for members and 30% for non members.

Sign Up for Kansas City Trip by this Friday, October 23

Kansas City Trip-Goers,

If you would like to be included in the official AIGA trip letter to be handed out to teachers, sign up by this Friday, October 23, on the sheet outside of the VisCom lab. Also, contribute $5 to our trip fund. Matt has an envelope to collect this money.

*Denotes optional activities. You have the option to leave Friday after the last design firm tour or Saturday after you enjoy Kansas City. We will work out specifics at the special trip meeting next Tuesday at 5:30.

Five Steps to Attend the AIGA Kansas City Trip

1. Sign up for the trip by this Friday, October 23. Turn in $5 to help cover costs. You can find the sign-up sheet outside of the door to the VisCom lab. Please turn any money in to Matt.
  
2. Attend the mandatory trip meeting next Tuesday, October 27, at 5:30 pm in the Illustration room. At this meeting, you will receive absence excuse letters and a revised itinerary. We will also arrange carpools and housing.

3. You may want to research the firms we will be visiting. Potential firms/designers include:

• Willoughby Design (brand design firm)
• Reign (ad agency with internal design arm)
• Stefan Mumaw (designer & author of Caffeine for the Creative Mind)
• Hammerpress (letterpress & design studio)
• Vahalla Studios (silkscreen & custom illustrations)
• Blacktop Creative (design firm)
• Barkley (ad agency with internal design arm)
• MK12 (firm known for motion work, did the intro to the last 007)
• VML (largest interactive agency in country)

4. Inform your teachers about your absence.

AIGA Meeting :: 10.20.2009

Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 20th, we will have an AIGA meeting at 5:30 in the Illustration Room.

We discuss the Kansas City trip, start a sign-up list for the trip, and the Fundraising Committee will give us an update on their progress.

Our next AIGA meeting is this Tuesday, October 5, at 5:30 PM in the Illustration Room. 

Before the Meeting...

• Check to see if you have any Kansas City or St. Louis housing contacts for our fall trip. We may need places to sleep Wednesday, November 4; Thursday, November 5; and  Friday, November 6. If you are from Kansas City or St. Louis, please check at home to see how many people you can host.
• Brainstorm fundraising ideas!   

At the meeting...

• Depending on interest and the number of definite housing opportunities, will will decide where our fall trip will be (St. Louis/KC).
• We will talk about researching graphic design firms.
• Our new fundraising committee will present fundraising ideas.

AIGA dues are due at tomorrow's meeting [Tuesday 9/22]

Tomorrow is a very special day. It is our second AIGA meeting. It is also the day in which you officially become a member of the Truman State University AIGA Student Group. Join us at 5:30 PM in the Illustration to be a part of this event.

We will be collecting membership dues and discussing some of our upcoming events for the rest of this semester. If 20 people can commit to a national membership, we found a discounted group membership rate. As a result, national membership is significantly less than what we talked about earlier.

Here is the rundown for what is due tomorrow:

• Local Membership: $40 (cash/checks made out to AIGA)
  
• National Membership: $70 (instead of $95) (cash/checks made out to AIGA)
  

 If you decide to go with the national membership, we will be creating an online account tomorrow. However, the payment is no longer online.
